Hi girls,
I've been thinking...and i hate to suggest it or even question it...but, now that Diane has hit 60, do you think that her days of romantic films are done? the possiblity is still there, but hey, let's face it, American movies don't really feature 60 year old couples in love ya know? and if this is true...it's so sad to hear because my favorite movies are Diane's romantic comedies...from SGG to Annie Hall..they were all great! Yes, of course her family movies are great too but has the romance passed? Let's hope not because we all know she is still capable of it....let's just hope film makers agree. it's very depressing to see all romance movies now a days involving young actors and actresses and see that this trend is taking over hollywood. it just seems like in Diane's very recent movies and upcoming movies she's taking some what of the back seat and supporting the lovers in lead roles...Idk...just something i've been dreading and wondering what you all think!
Take care- Jules

yeah, it would be so bad... but isn't she going to play a mom who starts dating in Mama's Boy ?? of course I don't know how much they are gonna show of it...?

What disturbs me most is not the romance thing, but that in any genre it is rare that an actor over 60 plays the leading role and I want to see more of Diane!!! you know, with the Family Stone too, I wanted more scenes with her, but of course it was impossible as she played a supporting character. And so what I'm most afraid of is that we're going to see movies where she has got about 2 or 3 scenes and that's it, I would hate it!

So I really hope she will play more LEADING roles, no matter what the genre is!

Hi! I think that is something normal that at this age she won't play romantic characters anymore , as sad as it is , because i agree , i loved all that kind of movies . But i am waiting for new things , that doesn't mean it is all over . And in the meantime , i am just happy , that she is one of the few actresses who is still playing at this age . I can't even think of another actress that age who is still getting roles , maybe i don't know Meryl Streep ? So i am just happy that she is out there and that i can see her . And about her role in TFS , i don't think it was a supporting role , because there were so many characters that all of them were supporting , you know what i am saying? And as you all read , her performance was the best .

Hi everybody...I'm back!!

I was wondering the same at Jules...and I'm a little worried about. I also LOVE romantic movies and SGG is the best for me so, I cannot think of Diane without this kind of roles even if now she's 60. C'mon, when she was Erica in SGG she was 57, it was 3 years ago...what's the difference? I don't know if you understand what I mean...but I know also that it's difficult to find out plots as that one of SGG.

Do you remember Goldie Hawn in The first wives club...when she says she is too old now and that she can play only the MOTHER OF Monique?! I really hope this won't be Diane's story too.

I think Meryl Streep is on her way (concerning age) and she also doesn't have romantic roles to play this year (as a protagonist).

But these actresses are THE BEST of Hollywood I think and it would be a real PITY if they will put on the corner.

Love,

I have to say I have serious doubts "Something's Gotta Give" will ever happen again. In fact I belive SSG wouldn't have happened, if there hadn't been Nancy Meyers, she's one in a million talking about movie makers and grown-up romance movie theme, so she's the one we owe to, Diane's obvious one of her favourites, I don't know what came first - Diane or script, but I would say Diane.

Then here's question, would Diane want to do it again? SSG succeeded, but don't forget to count in Jack's factor and then here's Diane's self-esteem, she was in doubt attaching herself to SSG. rolleyes.gif So, Diane as romantic lead again, I doubt, personally I wouldn't mind, but considering (unfortunately not very fair) majority...

But anyway, I share yours feelings and I'm just glad Diane's working and getting roles. Then She Found Me and Mama's Boy sound pretty original; I've been really looking forward to Da Vinci's Mother, but I have some worries, she's becoming type for grieving mother (Breaking Through, Surrender Dorothy)...

Btw I think it would be really interesting and challenging to watch Diane playing sort of fairy character in nowadays hip visualizations of fairy tales, w00t.gif I'm keyed up just thinking of it! Wake up, agents! wink.gif

Actually, there are a LOT of actresses out there still working despite their age: yes, Meryl Streep (56), Susan Sarandon (59), Shirley MacLaine (71!!!), Vanessa Redgrave (68) just to name a few and it's perfectly natural since - as Diane also said once in some interview - there are people in life who are past 50 and so somebody has to play them in the movies! What I'm saying is that these are no leading roles and I will miss those movies like SGG and AH where she's almost always on screen.
But of course I'm glad as well that she's still doing movies at all.

Regarding Meryl Streep and playing romantic leads, there's a funny thing she always tells in interviews in connection with her latest movie 'Prime'. She says that when her agent told her about the movie and the script and that it was about a romance between a young man and an older woman, she thought "hmm, that sounds good" and then she realized that she would have to play the *OLDER* older woman (that is the boy's mother) :-D

Totally agree...but we know also that Diane's attitude is always out of the chorus...who knows...CAN I DREAM?!

I agree with you girls that we may be pushing it to ask for another movie like SGG...but i guess when you're that obsessed with a movie, nothing is too far fetched! tongue.gif
Yes, it's quite noticable that actresses Diane's age realistically play the older mother and I know that directors will be looking for that quirky edge from Diane to fill that role...
And of course, no matter what Diane's playing, it's ALWAYS good to watch! Take care. -Jules

Yeah , i agree the older actress are out there , but they ussually play supporting roles . I think that Susan Sarandon last role was in Alfie , and it wasn't something big . So.... But this is the old story , with the older actresses not getting roles . But , like i said i am happy just to see her in the movies . You know in what role i would love to see her? I would love to see her playing a shrink . Man that waould be so great .
