Stando al sito web della città di Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Marc Forster sta per tornare – dopo l’exploit action di “Quantum of Solace” – a un genere a lui più congeniale. Nel suo prossimo film, “Machine Gun Preacher”, Forster racconterà la storia vera di Sam Childers, un uomo cresciuto tra la violenza, domestica e urbana, cha da selvaggio biker e spacciatore di droga si è trasformato in un pastore che spende ancora oggi la propria esistenza nelle zone di guerra tra Uganda e Sudan, per salvare le vite dei tanti bambini trasformati in soldati.

Childers sarà interpretato probabilmente da Gerard Butler, che grazie a questo ruolo potrebbe dimostrare davvero di che pasta è fatto. La pellicola sarà tratta dall’autobiografia di Childers, “Another Man's War: The True Story of One Man's Battle to Save Children in the Sudan”.

Ma cosa non sarà vederlo con quei baffoni?!?!?!

Un "reverendo d'assalto" è sicuramente un personaggio che gli calzerebbe.

Il fatto di essere diventato praticamente una garanzia per il box-office americano fa sì che Gerard Butler abbia più di una possibilità che un suo progetto cinematografico da tempo inseguito vada finalmente in porto.
I due film di cui è stato protagonista quest'anno non sono andati benissimo in quanto a critica, ma hanno fatto felici le casse dei produttori: La dura verità ha totalizzato 89 milioni di dollari, mentre Law Abiding Citizen (in arrivo in Italia il 16 aprile) è arrivato inaspettatamente a quota 73. Adesso però l'attore vuole impegnarsi per realizzare un film più impegnato e che metta più in risalto le sue doti recitative, e per farlo ha chiamato il regista Marc Forster (Neverland - Un sogno per la vita, Il cacciatore di aquiloni).

Si chiamerà Machine Gun Preacher e, a detta dell'attore, racconterà la storia di Sam Childers, "un ex-trafficante di droga che trova la fede e diventa il difensore di centinaia di bambini del Sudan che vengono rapiti e obbligati a divnetare soldati".
Il progetto sembra avviato verso felici esiti, anche se probabilmente Marc Forster dirigerà prima The Chancellor Manuscript, un thriller che avrà per protagonista Leonardo di Caprio.

Speriamo bene!

Marc Forster ha diretto alcuni ottimi film ( Neverland ad esempio ) e quindi non ci resta che sperare in una buona sceneggiatura .
L' argomento è tosto , ma molto d'impatto ( vedi Blood Diamond )

Gerard Butler Describes 'The Most Incredible Story' In 'Machine Gun Preacher'

"Machine Gun Preacher." That's a helluva title, isn't it? It's an upcoming "based on truth" story directed by Marc Forster and starring Gerard Butler. The actor told MTV contributor Ryan Downey all about the planned 2012 release when the two chatted last week at the press junket for "How To Train Your Dragon," which hits theaters tomorrow.

"It's an incredible story," he said. He's right too-- it's pretty wacky. Hit the jump for Butler's lengthy explanation.
"Basically it's the story of-- this guy is still alive, I just spent time with him in Pennsylvania. His name is Sam Childers. He grew up a thug, a very violent guy. He was a drug dealer. And found god, found a new way. Started his own business." So far, so meh, right? I mean, sure... it's a feelgood story. But there are plenty of people who have picked themselves up out of a bad situation and made good for themselves.
"And then ends up down in Sudan, just goes down to stick some roofs on houses down there. He saw some of the most awful atrocities that were happening down there with these guerilla forces that would move in and kidnap the kids, kill the families. So he took it on himself to do something about it. Went back [to the United States], became a preacher in Pennsylvania, raises money and builds an orphanage down there to protect the kids and ends up joining forces with the southern Sudanese People's Liberation [Movement]." Aww... that's sweet. Not "incredible" yet, but very nice, very noble.
"Picks up a machine gun and is fighting the rebels with guns, grenades, machine guns in order to go and rescue some of these kids. He basically became a warrior and lived both-- he's still a preacher back in Pennsylvania and he's still a warrior down in [Sudan.]"
Uhhh... wow. See? It's actually pretty crazy. Sort of like the "Preacher" graphic novel come to life, except without all of the supernatural stuff about the voice of god and the Irish vampire.

Lionsgate boards sales on Machine Gun Preacher for Cannes

Lionsgate will commence pre-sales in Cannes on the action drama Machine Gun Preacher that Marc Forster will direct starring Gerard Butler.

Jason Keller’s screenplay is inspired by the true story of former gang biker Sam Childers who turned his life around and dedicated it to saving children from African warzones.

Robbie Brenner, Gary Safady, Deborah Giarratana and Craig Chapman are producing and Brad Simpson and Myles Nestle are serving as executive producers.

Butler currently stars in Sony’s action comedy The Bounty Hunter. Forster’s last outing as director was on the James Bond tale Quantum Of Solace.
